A plain guide
The purpose of flower essences
In short
Flower essences are infused preparations made from pure flowers, taken as drops, usually for a period of 14 days.
What are flower essences?
Australian bush flower essences are infused preparations, made by leaving the flowers in sunlight for a period of time. They are taken as drops.
They are not essential oils, just pure Australian bush flowers.
What makes Australian bush flower essences different?
Australian bush flower essences are made from native Australian plants, flowers that grow in some of the oldest and least disturbed country on earth. The range was developed by Ian White, a fifth-generation Australian herbalist, who spent decades working with the plants of this continent.
Where does the practice come from?
Flower remedies as we know them began with Dr Edward Bach, an English physician who, in the 1930s, left his practice to develop a set of thirty-eight flower preparations.
Ian White carried the same approach into the Australian bush from the 1980s onwards. The Australian range grew out of this tradition rather than replacing it.
How are the essences made?
- The flowers are gathered by hand, from parts of Australia that are still unpolluted, and only in quantities the plant can spare.
- They’re left in a bowl of pure water in full sunlight for several hours.
- The flowers are removed and the essence is preserved.
- That preparation is diluted into the bottles that reach you.
How do you take them?
Seven drops go under the tongue, morning and night, for a usual two weeks. The bottle is discarded after 30 days.
The aura sprays are a different thing. They are made with essential oils rather than flower essences, and they are misted above your head or through a room, whenever you feel they’re needed.
Who uses flower essences?
People of every age, and of every kind. Some use them through a season of change. Some use them at the end of a long day. There’s no type of person this is for.
Are flower essences medicine?
No. Flower essences are a complementary practice. They are not medicine, they are not a treatment for any condition, and they are not a substitute for medical care. If something is worrying you about your health, please speak to your doctor. Keep doing whatever you’re already doing, essences sit alongside a life, they don’t replace anything in it.
How do you choose which one?
For your personal essence, we choose together. You book a consultation, we talk, and the essences are chosen after that conversation rather than off a shelf.
For an aura spray, read the description of each one and go with the one you keep coming back to. That instinct is usually worth trusting.
